Jane Austen was born in the rectory of Steventon (Hampshire). His family belonged to the agrarian bourgeoisie. His father, an Anglican minister, was rector of Steventon parish. She was the seventh child in a family of eight siblings, her father was personally in charge of her education. In 1801, the Austens moved to Bath and, after the death of the father of the family, in 1805, first to Southampton and then to Chawton, a town in Hampshire, where the writer wrote most of her novels.

Jean Austen had a life without major events, with hardly anything to disturb the placidity of a petit-bourgeois and provincial existence; She only made the occasional trip to London from time to time. She never got married.

Some of her first works were published in the book “Love and Friendship”, and Other Works (1922). After her death, several incomplete novels were published. She died in Winchester on July 18, 1817.

She was a prominent British novelist who lived during the Regency period. Thanks to the irony she uses to give comedy to her novels, Jane Austen is counted among the "classics" of the English novel, while her reception goes, even today, beyond academic interest, being read by a broader audience.
